Sri Lanka is to set up a climate change university soon, President Ranil Wickremesinghe said yesterday.
Speaking during an interview with Leader TV, the President said he will send former Maldivian President Mohamed Bashir as his convoy together with advisor on Climate Change Erik Solheim to a number of countries to get support from.various nations for the proposed university and to minimise effects of climate change.
"We could not do much on climate change due to the COVID 19 pandemic situation. However we are looking at a green economy. Many countries look to this concept today and we also cannot do without a green economy," he said.
"We also expect the head of Commonwealth King Charles to participate in COP 27 summit so that he could contribute towards the issue pertaining to climate change effects. He recalled that commonwealth has passed a resolution on climate change in the recent years. (Yohan Perera)
