SLAF on standby to assist floods and landslides situation

Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) are on standby to deploy aircraft and related personnel to provide relief and rescue operations in the event of possible floods and landslides in several parts of the country due to the adverse weather conditions.

SLAF Spokesman Group Capt. Dushan Wijesinghe said according to the Meteorological Department, the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has issued warnings that there is a risk of floods and landslides in several parts of the country due to adverse weather conditions. 

Accordingly, the Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Marshal Sudharshana Pathirana has instructed to keep aircraft and related personnel on standby in case of any relief and rescue operations.

The spokesman said that Sri Lanka Air Force aircraft and helicopters have been deployed at Ratmalana, Katunayake, Hingurakgoda and Anuradhapura Air Force Bases while Special teams are on standby for rescue operations. (DSB)
