The SLPP yesterday wished the victims of the Ginigathena shooting a speedy recovery and said the perpetrators of the incident should be brought to book after conducting a proper investigation.
Issuing a statement, media spokesperson of SLPP presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa, MP Dullas Alahapperuma, said Mr. Rajapaksa has also condemned the act and expressed sympathies to the victims.
"Our efforts throughout this campaign led by Mr. Rajapaksa are focused on conducting an ethical and law-abiding campaign in line with election laws and regulations. We firmly believe the perpetrators of this incident should be brought to the book regardless of their status. We also request everyone to maintain a law-abiding, non-violent and a just election campaign," MP Alahapperuma said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Rajapaksa in his tweet said "I’m deeply saddened by the alleged incident of former Minister S. B. Dissanayake’s security personnel, and if true, I hope authorities will take immediate action. My promise to uphold law and order remains a priority. I shall not hesitate to take stern action irrespective of rank, title or position". (Lahiru Pothmulla)
