Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has decided to bring in a salary hike for public servants through the interim budget which is to be presented in the future.
Sources from the Prime Minister’s office said the salary hike will be introduced considering the skyrocketing cost of living.
Also the Prime Minister is expected to make a request for a salary hike for private sector workers as well during the budget speech.
‘The Prime Minister has advised the officers who are preparing the budget to look into the possibility of a salary hike. Salaries for the public sector were increased by Rs 10,000 in 2015.
Meanwhile, it was reported that a delegation from the IMF is expected to arrive in the island next week.
They are due to arrive following an invitation made by the Prime Minister. They are expected to discuss ways and means of reviving the Sri Lankan economy. (Yohan Perera)
