Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis today allowed three days bed rest to Shashi Weerawansa, the wife of ex-Minister Wimal Weerawansa as she was not well.
The Magistrate further postponed the case until April 28.
Sashi Weerawansa was charged before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court allegedly for submitting forged documents to obtain a diplomatic passport.
Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris appearing on behalf of the prosecution, did not object to postponing the case for a further date due to her illness.
The CID had filed this lawsuit against Sashi Weerawansa allegedly for forwarding forged documents to the Controller of the Department of Immigration and Emigration to obtain a diplomatic passport.
In an earlier case a former Magistrate sentenced Shashi Weerawansa, to two years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 100,000 on charges of possession of a forged passport.
However Shashi Weerawansa had appealed against the verdict of the Judge to Colombo High Court afterwhich she was enlarged on bail. (T. Farook Thajudeen)
