The prevailing Covid-19 situation in the county has posed a higher danger on senior citizens with chronic diseases, Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said.

He, therefore, requested senior citizens to be extra cautious and to take precautionary measures and seek immediate medical attention if they feel unfit and unwell.

Doctor Samaraweera also urged them to stay home as much as possible as a precaution to prevent them from contracting the coronavirus.

“By any chance, if a senior citizen with chronic disease gets infected with the virus, his or her condition might be worse," he added.

The two individuals who died due to Covid-19 recently were reportedly suffering from chronic heart diseases.

Meanwhile, Dr. Samaraweera said there is a high possibility of the virus spreading in areas where movements are not restricted yet.

Hence, he asked people not to roam outside on unnecessary purposes, but to try and stay at home as much as possible.

“The health and security officials are doing their best to mitigate the danger of Covid-19 and for that, people’s support is of utmost importance,” he added. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
