Sri Lanka's Youth Netballers were trounced by Singapore 51 points to 29 in their preliminary round match in the Asian Youth Netball Championships in South Korea today.
Singapore, who are ranked second in Asia in the Under 21 category, outscored Sri Lanka in all four quarters, 11-08, 10-05, 15-09, 15-07.
This was Sri Lanka’s first defeat of the tournament, having recorded big wins against South Korea and Brunei earlier.
Singapore now leads Group B in the tournament, with the top two teams qualifying for the semi-finals.
Sri Lanka will face Chinese Taipei tomorrow (14) and victory will guarantee second place in the group, although it would mean a tougher opponent, likely Malaysia, who are the defending champions, in the next round. (Susil Premalal)
