Some allegations that have been made on Easter Sunday attacks are merely conspiracy theories that reject accepted narratives with regard to the April 2019 attacks, a senior police officer told MPs during a meeting held at the parliamentary complex.
Head of Counter -Terrorism Investigation Division (CTID) SSP Prasanna Alwis who held a presentation to educate the Members of Parliament on the progress of investigations which the police have carried out on Easter Sunday attacks some allegations pertaining to the mayhem including the allegations on 'Sonic Sonic' and that Sarah Jasmine the wife of the suicide bomber who blew himself up at Katuwapitiya Church Negombo are conspiracy theories and are false.
One of the MPs who attended the meeting said there are conspiracy theories involved in the Easter Sunday attacks.
“The presentation failed to highlight much about Asasth J Mawlana and the allegations which British Channel 4 came out with recently. The police officers did not answer the questions raised by the MPs in a satisfactory manner,” he said.
Though it was earlier reported that SSP Nilantha Jayawardene and SSP Deshabandu Tennakoon were to attend the meeting and educate the MPs, both these officers did not participate in the meeting at the end of the day. Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella earlier questioned as to how two officers who have been held responsible for neglecting prior warnings on the attack talk about the progress made on the investigations with regard to Easter Sunday attacks.
Parliament security sources said that SDIG Jayawardena attended a separate meeting of the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Transport and Energy at the Committee Room II of the parliamentary complex yesterday morning. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardan)
