Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene denied informing the party leaders that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is ready to resign if the leaders of political parties request him to do so.
"There is a report circulating on social media that I have informed party leaders of President's willingness to resign if they ( party leaders) make a request," he said.
This caused an uproar as Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa reiterated that Speaker informed the party leaders of President's vwillingness to resign. " I am not a fool to distort what you said. Don't deny your statement. You are a Tom Pachaya( blatant lier)" Mr. Premadasa said.
"It is you who are coming up with Tom pacha ( blatant lie)," the Speaker shot back.
"I only said President is ready to handover the government to anyone who commands majority," the Speaker added.
