Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene in a letter addressed to President has informed him that he should resign from his post immediately and convene Parliament in seven days to appoint an acting President.
He has also informed that new administration should be formed with a new Prime Minister and then go for a general election after a specific time period.
Also, he has informed him that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had proposed alternatives which included the appointment of the incumbent Prime Minister as the acting President and then form a new government with a new premier. Also, the Speaker has said Mr. Wickremesinghe had come up with a second proposal which is the resignation of both himself and the President and then convenes Parliament to elect a new President and a Prime Minister.
