The Disaster Management Center (DMC) and the Election Commission are implementing a special joint mechanism to manage disruptions during election week, the DMC announced yesterday.
The ‘Special Election Joint Disaster Operations Unit’ has been established by the DMC, coordinating with the Election Commission, Sri Lanka armed forces and other agencies, and will be implemented from the 12th- 16th November, 2024.
The general public is requested to inform the DMC’s emergency hotline number 117 or the Special Joint Emergency Operations Room numbers 0113 668032/ 0113 668087/ 0113 668025/ 0113 668026 and 0113 668119 established at the Disaster Management Center if any disaster occurs during the election period, which will hinder the election process.
The DMC recently took steps to inform the tri-forces, police, and other relevant institutions and District Disaster Management Coordination Units about how to proceed according to this plan in order to prevent any disruption to the election due to any disaster.
The Emergency Disaster Response Preparedness Plan, which has been prepared with the aim of eliminating possible disruptions to the election, can be downloaded from the Disaster Management Center's website.
