Sri Lanka needs a coordinated assistance programme supported by multilateral financial institutions, representatives of the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, International Monetary Fund and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank agreed after meeting President Ranil Wickremesinghe today.
They reached the agreement following a lengthy round table discussion held in Colombo where the President Wickremesinghe presented Sri Lanka’s development programme for economic recovery and long term development.
The meeting was attended by Vice President of the World Bank Martin Raiser, Vice President of the Asian Development Bank Shixin Chen, IMF’s Senior Mission Chief Peter Breuer and Dr. Urjit Patel of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank along with several other senior officials.
Also present at the event were Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardene, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabri, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera, Finance State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Investment Promotion State Minister Dilum Amunugama, Governor of the Central Bank Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe and former Central Bank Governor Dr. Indrajith Coomaraswamy.
