Mullaitivu, Dec 19 (Daily Mirror) - A multi-day trawler carrying more than 100 suspected illegal emigrants lost its course and drifted towards the sea off the Mullivaikkal coast in Mullaitivu.

Investigations revealed that the group, primarily from Myanmar, had been attempting to migrate illegally under the guise of refugees. The trawler had run out of food and water after losing its direction and drifted to the area.

Sri Lankan authorities, including the Navy, police and local residents, provided immediate aid, delivering essential supplies like food and water. Authorities are still deciding whether to allow the group to disembark, with further consultations pending.

Among the group are approximately 25 children. A Sri Lanka Navy official said the group included about 25 children and that the Navy will examine them and provide medical facilities.
