The Government has decided to dispose super luxury vehicles used in government institutions given their high maintenance and fuel costs.

Addressing the weekly Cabinet meeting, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said the government will review all vehicles in its institutions.

"Cars with petrol engines over 1800cc and diesel engines over 2300cc will be disposed, except for double cabs, single cabs, vans, and buses. The sale process will follow official procedures, and the vehicles must be disposed of by March 1, 2025. The Treasury Secretary will issue guidelines for this process, and the Treasury's Controller General will oversee the results," he explained.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake proposed this plan to make the government’s vehicle fleet more cost-effective.
