The driver and his assistant of a '1990 - Suwa Seriya’ ambulance who called over at a house to rush to hospital an individual who had taken ill during a party held in the house, had been assaulted by two individuals attending the party.
During investigations, the Karuwalagaswewa police arrested the suspects involved in the incident.
Police said an expatriate employee in an European country who visited Sri Lanka on holiday had held a birthday party in the house.
However, when the owner of the house suddenly fell ill, his relatives called the Suwa Seriya ambulance service on 1990 to take him to the hospital.
The ambulance was parked a little distance away from the house due to obstructions caused to the road access by the vehicles of the invitees to the party. However, two individuals who were under the influence of liquor had accused the driver and his assistant of parking the ambulance away from the house.
The driver and his assistant, who received injuries, immediately boarded the vehicle and returned to the Karuwalagaswewa police, who admitted them to the Puttlam General Hospital while another Suwa Seriya ambulance that arrived from Puttlam had rushed the owner of the house to the hospital.
A police team under OIC Karuwalagaswewa police IP Sujeewa Alawatta is conducting further investigations.
