The Government should take over unclaimed Malwana mansion, money disclosed by Pandora Papers and money defrauded through airbus deal just as the Finance Minister proposed to transfer Rs. 8.5 billion earned by Perpetual Treasuries Limited in Central Bank Bond scam to the Treasury, National Peoples' Power (NPP) MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today.
He told Parliament that the proposal to take over PTL funds was praiseworthy and that if the Finance Minister had a genuine intention to take over money earned by corrupt politicians, his proposals and observations should have been made in a broad perspective.
“It is a good proposal to transfer Rs. 8.5 billion earned by Perpetual Treasuries Limited in the Central Bank Bond scam to the Treasury. But, he has forgotten Rs. 35 billion disclosed by Pandora Papers. It was revealed in London that US$2 million was deposited to former SriLankan Airlines chief official’s wife’s account by French Airbus Company when an Airbus was procured by Sri Lanka in 2014. There is a mansion and a plot of land in Malwana which no one claims ownership to. Take over such property also,” he said.
Speaking during the second reading debate of the budget, he said the country has run into poverty where people are struggling to meet their basic needs while the rulers are enjoying their lavish life.
“Sri Lanka is the only country in the world where its people and the country are poor but the rulers are well-off and lavish,” he said.
MP Dissanayake said the corrupt political system should be defeated if Sri Lanka could see any development to it.(Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
