To pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth; Two-minute silence observed in Parliament

Parliament paid a tribute by observing a two-minute silence today to the late Monarch of Britain and Head of Commonwealth, Queen Elizabeth II.

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardene proposed the observing of two minutes silence, requested for a special condolence vote in the House on another day.

“Sri Lanka Parliament expresses its grief at the demise of Queen Elizabeth II, who is also the head of Commonwealth states. We propose that Parliament takes up a special condolence vote on an agreed date,” he said.

Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella who expressed condolence on behalf of the Opposition said the late Queen has won the heart of all people in the world. We express the condolences of the Opposition," he said.

However there were only ten members present at the time when the tribute was paid. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
