Transmission of the virus from recent Minuwangoda Covid-19 patients to others is extremely high, as the virus is highly infectious than in previous cases, Chief Epidemiologist Dr Sudath Samaraweera said.
He said the behavioral pattern changes of the virus may have led to this type of scenario, which means that the possibility of others easily being infected with the virus is high.
“The situation at present seems to be serious and therefore, people must adhere to basic health guidelines so that the vast damage that this current virus may cause to the community, could be mitigated,” Dr. Samaraweera stressed.
Moreover, he said it would take a considerable time period to trace all the contacts of the Minuwangoda factory cluster.
Meanwhile, he said people not only in the Minuwangoda area but in other areas should also be more cautious because several factory workers, who had gone on vacation, have tested positive for the virus in areas like Jaffna, Matale, Kurunegala and Monaragala.
Although the Government informed that all public gatherings such as exhibitions, large conferences, parties should not be conducted, Dr. Samaraweera said that pre-scheduled events like weddings can be held under strict observation and recommendations of respective Public Health Inspectors.
