Travel restrictions between provinces will likely be implemented over the next few days, Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said.

The Army Commander said that at talks held today no decision was taken to enforce an islandwide lockdown.

However, he said travel restrictions, especially between provinces, will likely be enforced. He also said that essential services will be allowed operate between provinces f travel restrictions are enforced.

General Shavendra Silva also said that the Army will be deployed to assist the health authorities in the vaccination process.

It was decided today to expand the coronavirus vaccination program around the country while focusing on the Colombo, Kalutara and Gampaha Districts. (Easwaran Rutnam)
