Amidst ongoing acts of suppression of stakeholders in the Galle Face aragalaya, two police teams raided the headquarters of the Front Line Socialist (FSP) party early yesterday morning and had started searching the premises claiming they were looking for Wasantha Mudalige.
A group of about ten unidentified men in civvies had arrived in a van lead by a person in a police uniform they had entered the party’s head office at Melder Place in Nugegoda at around 7.30am yesterday and had started searching the premises without giving any reasons for doing so. FSP Propaganda Secretary Duminda Nagamuwa told media that although the party members who were present at the scene during the incident had inquired from the visiting party whether they were from the police or possessed a search warrant, the latter had not responded.
The group had gone through the party’s office material and documents before leaving the premises amidst growing objections of party members who were present during the scene.
However, about half an hour after their departure a large contingent of police force in uniforms had arrived and again entered the FSP office and had claimed that they from the Mirihana Police Station and had even produced a warrant to search the premises.
They too had gone through the office premises and had reportedly informed party official Duminda Nagamuwa that they had come in search of Inter University Student Federation (IUSF) Convener Wasantha Mudalige, who took a leading position in the ‘GotaGoHome’ struggle.
“We inquired from the teams as to which police station they belong to but they would not divulge any details to that effect. They even videoed our headquarters without our consent,” Nagamuwa said.
