Legal action will be taken against the public servants, secretaries including the Senior DIG in charge of the Northern Province and key police officers, who do not support the environment protection programs in the Northern Province (NP), NP Governor Jeevan Theagarajah said.

He said he had instructed the officials to implement environmental protection and conservation programs in the Northern Province in accordance with the standard provisions.

The Governor solicited the assistance of the police and the Pradeshiya Sabha to consider the Environmental Protection and Conservation Programs as a special task.

"A series of excellent eco-friendly and safety activities were conducted in the Karainagar area and under very successful development plans. Drainage systems and highways that have been on a very high standard are now dysfunctional," he said.

Accordingly, the Governor requested the officials to submit a special series of plans on environmental protection and conservation in the Northern Province before Friday (7).

Therefore, the Governor has decided to take legal action against all public servants and secretaries for not implementing the tasks. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
