Water Supply Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara today said the Ministry expects to continue water supply without any increased charges and determined to meet water consumption needs of the people.
Addressing the media, he said during this pandemic situation, paying various bills has become a serious issue for consumers.
"The ministry's goal is to increase revenue without raising the water tariff," the Minister explained.
The Ministry is hoping to increase the revenue from water supply provided to various commercial institutions and factories.
The Minister pointed out that the ministry should consider the decline in revenue due to water wastage and illegal tapping.
He said the income would be increased while increasing the number of new water connections.
"To meet the target of providing water to everyone by 2025, there should be a proper plan to protect the catchment areas. The vegetation and forest density in those areas should be increased in order to protect the water feeders," the Minister added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
