Parliament, December 18 (Daily Mirror)- Claiming that no agreement which betrays the country was signed with India, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath said today the agreement on power grid connectivity aims to export excessive energy generated in Sri Lanka.

The Minister told Parliament that the NPP had stated that Sri Lanka will generate energy and export excess energy to BIMSTEC countries.

Responding to a question raised by SJB MP Nalin Bandara, the Minister said the plan to export energy is an economic advantage to the country.

"We did not sign any agreement which betrays the country. In the joint statement issued with India, it is clearly stated that Sri Lanka has only agreed to continue the discussions on various energy projects," he said.
