Colombo, October 10 (Daily Mirror)- Announcing that the National Freedom Front (NFF) will not contest the general elections, its leader Wimal Weerawansa stressed the need for the National People's Power (NPP) government to secure a majority in parliament.

He said in a statement that the NFF, as an anti-imperialist political force which has a right to JVP's historical inheritance and respects it, is bound to stand for the mandate of the President and the aspirations of the people who have voted him to power.

Weerawansa said there is no doubt that some opposition forces who are acting on the imperialist agenda intend to see President Anura Kumara Dissanayake end up being a 'second Gotabaya' and that the NFF will not be a party to such agendas, putting the country into further crisis.

He said it is no secret that some hostile foreign forces wanted to incite clashes utilising the uncertain situation after the Presidential election results and create a situation similar to Bangladesh.

"However, Sri Lanka was able to prevent such a situation as the people, state officials and political forces realised and acted according to the warnings that the NFF gave with facts on the matter. We are very happy about that and we are thankful to the President and the JVP for acting to prevent a possible unrest in the country," he said.
