At a meeting held with estate owners, the Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) and plantation sector stakeholders today, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa stressed that estate owners should arrive at a final decision on the demands of the workers without further delay.
According to the Prime Minister's Media Division, the estate workers have failed to arrive at an agreement on the demands of estate workers at the today’s meeting.
Meanwhile, the newly elected CWC Secretary Jeewan Thondaman renewed calls to increase the daily wage of estate workers to Rs.1,000 at the meeting today.
Mr. Thondaman requested that the daily wage of an employee should be increased with allowances including Price Share Supplement, Productivity Incentive and Attendance Incentive added to the basic salary of Rs.700.
A crucial meeting on increasing the daily wage of estate workers is scheduled to be held on Thursday (25) under the leadership of Prime Minister Rajapaksa.
Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, Prime Minister's Secretary Gamini Senarath, CWC members, ministry secretaries, Sri Lanka Tea Board Chairman and plantation owners were present at the meeting. (Lahiru Pothmulla)
