Team Sri Lanka's Yevan David finished third in the qualifying race of the Formula Four event at the FIA Motorsports Games in Valencia, Spain, and will provisionally line up on the second row of Sunday's medal race.

David started the qualifying race in pole position, but a slow start off the line allowed Juan Cota Alonso, starting in second, to jump ahead at turn one.

David held onto the back of Alonso's car, but quickly dropped back after a close battle with the Spaniard through the first few laps, losing second place to Peru's Andres Cardenas later in the race.

He will start alongside Great Britain's Reza Seewooruthun in Sunday's medal race.

Earlier on Saturday, David held off Spain's Juan Cota Alonso, by seven-thousands of a second to top the time charts in the qualifying session that decided the grip for the qualifying race.
