The Attorney General (AG) informed the Nugegoda Magistrate today that they had taken charge of the Sakvithi Ranasinghe’s Financial scam and that the AG would take steps to remedy the depositors in due course.
Senior State Counsel Mr. Deeleepa Pieris made this assurance before the Nugegoda Magistrate Rohana Anura Kumara Herath today during the inquiry into Sakvithi Ranasinghe’s case.
The State Counsel said that the suspect had swindled over Rs 186 million of cash belonging to the depositors. Already 44 complaints had been received by the CID and are over 400 witnesses are anticipated to give evidence in the case. He said there are some more complaints to be made to the police.
He contended that there is a public unrest in the society over the case and the Attorney General will initiate steps to propose a mode of payment to the depositors very soon. (TFT)
