The Nugegoda Magistrate yesterday further released on bail another suspect who surrendered before court over the attack on Srikotha.

The Provincial Councilor Shirantha Amarasekara was released on Rs.10,000 cash with two sureties for Rs.500,000 by Nugegoda acting Magistrate Sunitha Nanyakkara.

At the onset of the inquiry the Mirihana Police informed the Magistrate that the investigations are not yet concluded and moved for a date to file their investigation report in court. The Magistrate allowed the Police to file the report in court on January 29.

The suspect Shirantha Amarasekara was surrendered before the Magistrate by his counsel and moved to grant bail to the suspect as 16 other suspects who were alleged to have involved the case are already released on bail.

On considering the submissions of the counsel the magistrate released the suspect on bail and ordered the suspect to report to the Mirihana Police every Sunday.  He was also ordered to make a statement to the Mirihana Police.

Sixteen suspects including Provincial Councilors Maitree Gunaratne and Shiral Laktilleka who were in remand allegedly for unlawful assembly, trespassing, and criminal intimidation and damaging the UNP headquarters in Kotte during clashes were earlier released on bail. (T. Farook Thajudeen)
