Anura’s Will case goes to SC

The Supreme Court granted leave to appeal against the judgment of the Colombo Civil Appellate Court which refused to accept a photocopy of an alleged last Will as evidence to the testamentary action filed by Ms. Sunethra Bandaranaike claiming the property of the late Anura Bandaranaike on the basis of intestacy. 
 
The leave to appeal application would be heard in the Supreme Court on September 12, 2014. 
 
Wasantha Samarasekara a personnel security officer of late Anura Bandaranaike who was one of the four claimants of the Bandaranaike property had filed this petition before Supreme Court. 
 
Earlier, the Colombo Civil Appellate Court had granted leave to the application filed by one of the four claimants of the Bandaranaike property who challenged that the District Court order refused to accept a photocopy of the last Will as evidence to a testamentary case.
 
This testamentary action had been filed by the petitioner regarding the purported last Will of Anura Bandaranaike for his property estimated to be worth over Rs. 1.1 billion.
 
At the outset Ms. Sunethra Bandaranaike filed a testamentary action before the Colombo District Court seeking an order to decide proceedings on the basis of intestacy. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
