The United National Party (UNP)-led Vipakshaye Virodaya, the joint opposition group said today's attack on Bodh Gaya was a result of Sri Lanka failing to honour agreements and undertakings it had given to other countries.
UNP Assistant Leader Joseph Michael Perera addressing a news conference said the attack was a direct result of the Sri Lankan government’s failure to handle international affairs diplomatically. He said Sri Lankan Buddhists had become the target of the international community because of the actions of this government. “However, we condemn this attack which has been directed at Sri Lankan Buddhists,” he said.
Mr. Perera said the continual hostile attitude by the Sri Lankan government towards international communities and to her neighbour could result in another civil war.
