In the continued effort to minimize violations of electoral laws, leading elections monitoring body PAFFREL today urged the Elections Commissioner to blacklist government officials who abuse their capacity as election officials.

“We urge the Elections Commissioner to hold investigations and blacklist those who are found abusing their capacity as election officials so that action could be taken against them.

“When the Commissioner receives complaints about certain officials who are subsequently found guilty he should also respond to the complainant notifying them that the official has been blacklisted,” Executive Director of PAFFREL Rohana Hettiaratchchi said.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror Online Mr. Hettiaratchchi said that this would be the best method of increasing accountability and deterring errant election officials from infringing election regulations. (Jehan Gunasekera)
