Major income for Botanical gardens

A sum of Rs. 130 Million was generated as income from the National Botanical gardens in the country during 2010. This income can be increased up to Rs. 300 Million by the end of 2011, Dr. Siril Wijesundara, Director General of the Department of Botanical Gardens said.

There is significant increase of arrival of tourists at the Botanical gardens after the Ministry of Economic Development took steps to develop them recently. A recorded income of Rs. 64 Million was generated during the period of January – February 2011, he added

A total number of 16,953 local tourists visited the Peradeniya, Hakgala and Gampaha botanical gardens, while 52,087 foreign visitors were recorded during the first two months of 2011. These figures reflect a significant increase when compare with last year's amount. (Daily Mirror online)
