Shopkeepers across Britain have put up a £50,000 reward to help catch the gang, who shot a five-year-old Sri Lankan girl at the store in Stockwell, south London last Tuesday, London media reports said.

James Lowman, of the Association of Convenience Stores, which represents 33,000 shops, said: “We want to help the police to catch those responsible and we hope that by funding this reward we will play a part.” One of the gang is said to have opened fire with a silver handgun after two other youths ran inside the shop after being chased.

A man aged 19 has been arrested in connection with the shooting of a five-year-old girl was left fighting for her life.

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Boughton, leading the inquiry, said last night: “We are beginning to get a clearer picture of what happened.

“One of the youths who first ran into the shop has come forward and is assisting with our inquiries.

“We are still trying to trace the other individual and appeal to him to come forward.”  Meanwhile, Thursha, has opened her eyes in hospital after being blasted in the chest.

She showed the first signs of recovery yesterday following three emergency operations, reports said. It happened after three hoodies on bikes opened fire on two boys they chased into the Stockwell Food and Wine Shop.

Two shots were fired as they hid inside, hitting the innocent victims. Thursha was in the store visiting relatives with her mother, her three-year-old sister and brother, 12.
