The Lanka Private Bus Owners Association (LPBOA) said today that it was demanding a ten per cent increase in bus fares with the minimum fare increased to Rs.10 amid steps being taken by transport authorities to increase bus fares by 6.2 per cent from July 1.
LPBOA President Gemunu Wijeratne said the increases should be based on the 2011 committee report and not the 2007 committee report.
“The 2011 committee report should be send to the Finance Ministry for consultations,” he said. “We have to give our observations before the parties agree to finalise the prices. Fuel prices were increased on several occasions and the fares have to be in par with these adjustments,” he said.
