Businessman arrested with jewellery worth Rs. 11 mn at BIA

A Sri Lankan businessman was arrested early this morning at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) for attempting to smuggle jewellery worth Rs. 11 million from Singapore.

The customs officials said they found 363 gold chains and seven bracelets weighing more than two kilos concealed in a box of whisky bottle at the time of the arrest.

The suspect, a resident of Gampaha, was detained by the Customs officials for further investigation. (T.K.G. Kapila)
