Central Bank Governor Nivaard Cabraal must be arrested as the person who is responsible for Sri Lanka’s financial crisis, the United National Party (UNP) said today.
UNP parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake told a news conference that Mr. Cabral was an economic hit man who had plunged the country down a financial precipice.
“It is Mr. Cabraal who should be arrested and not the head of the collapsed financial companies. What has he done as the Central Bank Governor to resolve the crisis which has hit the Central Investment and Financial Ltd. (CIFL) and Okanda Finance and to meet out justice to the depositors of these failed companies,” Mr. Karunanayake asked.
Accusing the Government of plans to construct a peninsula in Mount Lavinia by filling the sea, he said Sri Lanka would not benefit from such wayward investments. “Why waste funds for such unwanted and unnecessary things,” Mr. Karunanayake said.
