Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga has personally invited the Mahanayake Theras of the three Nikayas to send their representatives for a meeting of the Forum to promote inter-faith harmony.
She had also requested the Christian, Hindu and Islamic religious leaders have also been requested to do so for the inter-faith meeting on January 28 at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute at Independence Square.
South Asia Policy and Research Institute (SAPRI) is organizing this meeting as part of its plans to present a set of proposals to uphold religious harmony in Sri Lanka.
SAPRI commissioned a group of eminent persons to draft a set of ‘Recommendations’ to promote religious harmony in Sri Lanka. SAPRI’s Forum for Inter-Faith Dialogue has been meeting intermittently for the past six months at our Institute to formulate these recommendations.
The group comprises clergymen, lawyers, university dons and leaders of civil society groups.
The former President chaired the meetings of the Forum and will preside at the meeting on January 28. Recently, she met the Mahanayake Theras of three Nikayas.
