CCD nabs two for extorting money

Two men were arrested by the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) for attempting to extort 25,000 pounds from two women living in the Bambalapitiya flats.

Police said the two men had entered the house during the weekend claiming that they were from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). Suspects had threatened the women that they would be arrested and remanded with their daughters if they failed to handover the cash.

The victims had informed the CCD over the incident and the suspects were arrested while hiding in the same area. They were arrested by the CCD when the two women came to finalise the deal with the suspects. The suspects were to be produced before the Hulftsdorp Magistrate shortly.

Police said public had been warned that they could request for the ID from the CID and TID officers which were supplied by the police department. (Supun Dias)
