Mr. Kotalawala, the Deputy Minister for Highways said that the construction of an expressway via Kurunegala would make it easy for the improvement of connectivity to other major cities in the country such as Trincomalee and Anuradhapura.
“We had to change the original feasibility study as a result of the new decision. The proposed road will be constructed up to Kurunegala via Kadawatha and Meerigama. From Kurunegala, it will be extended to Kandy. We are planning for improved connectivity to Trincomalee and Anuradhapura via Kurunegala through the proposed expressway,” the Deputy Minister said.
He said that a few companies from countries such as Malaysia, China, Korea and India had put forward their proposals to construct this road under the concept ‘Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT)’.
“We hold discussions with these companies. We are yet to select any company to strike the deal in this regard,” he said. (KelumBandara)
