The election monitoring body Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) reported that some counting officers and agents of the main opposition candidate at counting stations in Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Kurunegala and Matale had been physically assaulted when they were carrying out their duties.

The spokesperson for the Centre for Monitoring Election Violence Dr. Pakiasothy Saravanamuttu raised concerns over the incidents in a letter to the Elections Commissioner.
