The Met Department yesterday forecast gloomy weather with low temperatures in most parts of the country with heavy showers of up to 150mm in the North and East resulting from a tropical depression developing in the Bay of Bengal.said the depression was located 300km to the East of Jaffna and 200km to the North-East of Trincomalee.

The temperature in most parts of the county was low according to the data published by the department yesterday with the lowest temperature of 13.1 degree Celsius reported from Nuwara Eliya while the temperature in Baddula was recorded at 18.2 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Bandarawala was down to 15.5 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Colombo, Anurdhapura, Kandy, Kurunegala, Vavuniya and Moneragala was below 23 degrees Celsius.

The Met Department forecast showers or thunder showers as a result of the influence of the weather system over the northern parts of the country with heavy rain fall of more than 150mmatsomeplaces.(YP)
