Court enjoins UNP from expelling SLMC MPs

A Colombo Court today issued an Enjoining Order on the main opposition United National Party (UNP) which sought to expel Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) MPs who voted for the impeachment of Dr. Shirani Banadaranayake despite the UNP deciding to vote against the motion.
 
Colombo District Court Judge Amal Ranaraja issued this order operative till March 5 with notice of injunction and summons issued returnable on March 5.
SLMC Leader Rauf Hakeem, Minister Basheer Segu Dawood, parliamentarians M.S. Thowfeek, H.M.M. Harees, M.C.M. Faizal and Aslam Mohamed Saleem in their plaints cited UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and General Secretary Tissa Attanayake as the defendants.
 
Romesh de Silva PC with Harsha Amarasekera PC instructed by G.G. Arulpragasam appeared for the plaintiffs.
They stated that the resolution calling for the impeachment of Dr. Shirani A.Bandaranayake was debated and voted on January 10 and 11.(SSS)
