The head of the evaluation commission of the Commonwealth Games Scotland's Louise Martin, who is in Sri Lanka to assess the Sri Lankan city of Hambantota, expressed confident that Hambantota has also put together a very comprehensive bid.

“The Gold Coast impressed us with what they have on offer, and we are confident that Hambantota has also put together a very comprehensive bid,” Martin said. But Martin stressed her team doesn't decide which city will win.

“We do not come down with a specific recommendation as to who should be awarded the Games as that is not our job,” she said.

“It is the 71 nations and territories that make up the federation that will decide which city is awarded the 2018 Games.”

The nations meet in St Kitts and Nevis on November 11 to decide whether the athletes of the Commonwealth head to the Gold Coast or Hambantota in 2018.

The commission's visit will wrap up on Thursday. A technical report will then be written on both bids, to be released by October 11.
The report is then passed on to the member nations who vote on which of the two cities will gain hosting rights. (ninemsn.com)
