Dhanuna Tillekeratne's 82-year-old grand-mother today asked Court to release her from the case in which she had been charged with harbouring an offender by providing accommodation to her grandson Dhanuna, who is former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka’s son-in-law.

President’s Counsel Ananda Wijesekara, Counsel Ranil Samarasinghe and parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara appearing for Ellen Wimala Tillekeratne maintained that charges against their client cannot be maintained in accordance with available legal provision in the Penal Code.

Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage reserved his judgment for July 24 on either releasing her or proceeding further with the case. Prosecutors have concluded the calling of witnesses.

In this case Dhanuna Tillekeratne's grand-mother Ellen Wimala Tillekeratne (82) had been charged by the CID of having provided accommodation to her grandson, after a warrant had been issued for his arrest. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
