DMC warns Coastal dwellers in Jaffna to Trinco

The Disaster Management Center (DMC) today advised the people living within 100 metersof the coastal belt in Jaffna, Trincomalee, Mullativu and Kilinochchi to leave for safer locations.

 The DMC also advised the public in the endangered area to remove their vehicles, boats, fishing gear and other movable property from the area immediately in view of the impending danger of a gale.

The Met Department said the deep depression located about 150 km to the north-east of Trincomalee and could move towards the Jaffna peninsula.

The department said very strong winds blowing at a speed of about 100 kmph and heavy rain (about 200mm) could be experienced in the Northern Province, both in land and sea.

Meanwhile rough seas will be experienced in the coasts belt from Mannar,  Mullativu through  Kankasanturai and the fishermen should  be cautious of its danger .

Meteorological authorities warned the people living in these areas to be cautious of any possible danger from trembling waves that could rise up to a height three meters towards the cost and lash against land.

However the Sri Lanka Navy announced that they were prepared for life saving operations in case of a disastrous situation and to provide relief to the affected. (DS)
