Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena today instructed the Director General of Health Services Dr. Agith Mendis to suspend some dozen Indian drug suppliers for their failure to supply drugs on time, supplying substandard drugs and failure to supply the full stock of drugs ordered by the Health Ministry.
The decision was taken at the monthly review meeting of the Health Ministry when the current shortage of essential drugs was discussed.
Minster Sirisena also instructed Dr. Mendis to make arrangements to purchase essential drugs that are currently in short supply from other countries even at a higher rice.
