Parliamentarian Duminda Silva, the eleventh suspect in the killing of former Presidential Advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra and three others at Mulleriyawa on the local government elections day on October 8, 2011 was granted Rs 50,000 cash bail with two sureties for Rs 500,000 each by the Colombo High Court today.

The matter was earlier fixed for today so as to file objections by the Attorney General against the releasing of Duminda Silva on bail. However, at the onset of today’s inquiry, State Counsel Sudharshan De Silva appearing for the State submitted that the Attorney General would not object to releasing Mr. Silva on bail.

Thus High Court Judge Lalith Jayasuriya released Mr. Silva on a Rs. 50,000 cash bail with two sureties for Rs 5 00000. Judge Jayasuriya impounded the passport of Mr. Silva and he was also warned to refrain from interfering with the prosecution or the prosecution witnesses.

Judge Jayasuriya said if any complaint was received by him in relation to interfering with the prosecution or with the witnesses, Mr. Silva’s bail would be cancelled. The bail application of Mr. Silva was supported by Counsel Anuja Premaratna before the Colombo High court.

All the suspects remanded over the alleged involvement in the   Mulleriyawa Murder case were released on bail by the High Court on several occasions except the third suspect Chaminda Ravi Jayanath. He was refused bail due to his previous involvement in court cases. (TFT)
