The Trial-at-bar in the White Flag case today allowed accused former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka till May 4 to re-consider on making a statement in court due to the current tension situation within the ountry.

The Trial-at-bar Judges Ms. Deepali Wijesundera (President) W. T.M.P.B. Warawewa and M.Z. Razeen made this order on the defense following the submissions made by Senior Defense Counsel Nalin Ladduwahetty before the High Court.

Counsel Ladduwahetty submitted that the accused, Fonseka had determined to make a statement in the Court. However due to the tense situation that is prevailing in the court on post war state of affairs his client needs time to further think over his stand point and allow him time to take a decision over the issue.

Deputy Solicitor General Buwaneka Aluvihare in reply said that if the defense is truthfully making this request on taking into account the present state of affairs in the country he will not object for the defense move. On considering the submissions of the parties the court allowed time till May 4 to reconsider of making a statement by the defense in court. (T.Farook Thajudeen)
