Three supporters of General Sarath Fonseka who were arrested by the Army on Tuesday for allegedly conspiring to commit crimes have been released on Rs. 25,000 personal bail by the Colombo Additional Magistrate.
The supporters include two retired army officers of the Singhe Regiment and a civilian.
The Magistrate directed the CID to keep hold of the car alleged to be used by the suspects to come to the Hotel until February 3 to investigate whether the vehicle is involved in any crime.
The army officers namely Priyananda Gamaachchi, Vijitha Anneslam Koddipili and the civilian Priyantha Kumara Seneviratne and the car bearing registration number WP KC 5778 were taken into custody by Slave Island police following a complaint made by Major General Manawadu.
The CID filing a report on their investigations before the Magistrate submitted that the suspects and the car were taken into custody by Slave Island Police on the direction of the IGP.
The CID said that the two retired officers of the Sinhe Regiment and the civilian person, an employee of a private establishment were supporters of General Sarath Fonseka and they are not wanted by the Police for any crime. The CID said they will not object for granting bail to the suspects.
The Magistrate ordered the CID to file their report in court on February 3.
