Four arrested over Hambantota attack on UNP

Four persons were arrested today in connection with the attack on a group of UNP parliamentarians who were on a fact finding visit to the Hambantota Port and the Mattala Airport last month.

Police spokesman Ajith Rohana said that the men were arrested after probing their direct involvement in the attack.

He said CCTV camera footage, other video footage and eyewitness statements were used to identify the suspects.

However, Hambantota Mayor Eraj Fernando has not been arrested by the police.
 
The suspects were identified as Premasiri Paranavitharna (51) of Bandagiriya, Tuwan Ramzan Bahaman (32) of the Malay Colony, Bandagiriya, Madusha Thilan (25) of Godawaya, Ambalantota and Bindu Warnasinghe (35) of Bazaar Street, Hambantota.

The suspects were produced before the Hambantota Magistrate today and later they were released on bail on two sureties worth Rs.100,000 each. (SD)
